About Our Site
The Bellburn site was originally set up by Darlington Council in the 1970's after other local allotment sites had started to be used for housing.
By the mid 2000's the chance came to become self managed, this meant that the plot holders had more of a say in how the site was run.
The largest improvement during this time was to errect a secure fence around the whole site after being awarded a grant by the National Lottery Community Fund.
Further projects, including a Community Allotment set up by Groundwork, have been completed. This area houses The Cabin as well as raised beds which are used by various groups to help people learn to grow their own vegetables, enjoy crafts, meet people and work with others.
We've even had the local radio come to visit!
